Dr. Carl D. Reimers has achieved and maintained triple board certification in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and internal medicine. In his over fifteen years of experience as an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Reimers has performed thousands of complex interventional coronary procedures with an outstanding success rate. Besides challenging coronary stent procedures, Dr. Reimers is accomplished in rotational atherectomy as well as percutaneous mitral and aortic valvuloplasty. Dr. Reimers has a thriving outpatient practice in addition to his administrative role as the Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Interventional Laboratories. He is active in teaching cardiovascular fellows and has been an investigator in many research trials. Dr. Reimers has both authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers.
Starting in 1998, Dr. Reimers was invited to teach advanced concepts in interventional cardiology as a visiting professor at the St. Petersburg Scientific-Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. Traveling with faculty from Yale University, these trips fostered greater US-Russian collegial interaction as well as enhancing medical education on both sides.
In October, 2009 Dr. Reimers traveled with the charitable organization "Hearts Around the World" to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He spent a week at the 1,700 bed Cho Ray Hospital instructing and performing complex coronary interventions with his Vietnamese hosts.
Dr. Reimers graduated cum laude in 1984 from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both History and Biology. He went on to graduate from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in 1988. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. He practiced at Beth Israel Medical Center until 2004 when he was recruited by Dr. Gary Roubin to join the senior faculty at the Lenox Hill Heart & Vascular Institute of New York.
